BIRTHDAY CAKE!

Currently celebrating my oldest daughter Lorisia's 24th birthday with a delicious homemade chocolate cake (you can tell it's delicious by the look on her face and the fact that it was made by my wife... if I had made it the look would be cautiously optimistic)

Today was a pretty great day, celebrating a pretty great kid (sorry, young lady).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LORISIA!

So I'm now 39...

Earlier this week I celebrated my 39th birthday with some camping and a trip to The Louisiana Purchase, a wonderful little Creole and Cajun restaurant here in Edmonton.

Also I had my second sugary treat since June 1st.  It was a chocolate truffle cake and it was DELICIOUS!

The no sugar thing goes pretty well so far.  Next up for me will be skipping September so I can enjoy both Canadian Thanksgiving and Halloween treats come October.

Anyway, I realized that I had been neglecting my blog this week so wanted to swing by and say HI!

Next up will be a review of Clive Barker's The Scarlet Gospels - which I'm almost finished and am really REALLY enjoying!

Happy Birthday Lorisia!

So my oldest daughter turns 23 today, which is crazy as I'm pretty sure she's still that adorable little kid I remember from when I was 23, only with a boyfriend, a job, and a University degree...

ANYWAY, although she still may be very tiny in my mind, it's a pretty exciting day, tasty food and my first piece of anything sugary for SIX WEEKS! (Pictured below).

An amazing day for an amazing girl.

Things I've Noticed: It's my Birthday today

Today I celebrate my 37th birthday, and also my (roughly) fourth year of doing this blog.

I've had a pretty great day; my family has done some very nice things for me, we went out to see a movie (more on that on Wednesday), and I got to have my various birthday treats.

Also, I finished Infamous 2, which wasn't planned, but is quite nice, and I found the most adorable monkey-themed birthday picture I've ever seen (pictured right).

In a few weeks I'm back to school for the last year of my graduate degree, and honestly, I think I'm doing a pretty good job of living in my late-mid-30s (next year I have to start saying late-30s, so let me hang onto this for the year!).

For all my various followers, readers, and people who just stop by to see if I've found anymore cute monkey pictures, thanks!

Things I've Noticed: When I was 35, It was a very good year...

I’m turning thirty-six on Saturday, so as I sit here typing I’m thinking of all the stuff I’ve done in the last 367 days, and overall I’ve done pretty well.

I’ve kept up with my blogging; three posts a week every week (over three years now) and although some of them could have been pretty short, they have all continued to let me gush about my favourite genres, and reading and life in general.

I’ve completed my first third of Library School (which I bragged about here)

I examined the trend of re-imagining in Horror cinema

I got to go to the Alberta Library Conference.

I found my favourite Horror Comedy of the last seven years (since Shawn of the Dead)

I got to spend the day before their birthday with both of my kids for the first time in six years.

I found my favourite Horror video-game since Resident Evil 2 back in 1998

And most importantly I got to spend another year married to the nicest lady I’ve ever met.

Man, if 35 was this awesome – I can’t wait to see 36!
